Phonicshark is created from Wordshark, but focuses entirely on synthetic phonics. It includes detailed week by week support for ‘Letters and Sounds’.
Phonicshark provides an effective and low-cost resource to support the teaching of synthetic phonics whilst allowing staff to become familiar with some of the more extensive features present in the larger Wordshark.
Wordshark, the wider program, contains the ‘Letters and Sounds’ course but also many extra courses and features for later stages of reading and spelling, as well as the ability to add your own word lists. For these reasons it does not meet all the rules for the current match-funding.
Phonicshark will help children at the earlier stages of reading and spelling, to focus on this task using synthetic phonics, without access to activities intended for later stages of the process. The addition of a Phonicshark network will also free up Wordshark licences for use by other children.
The limit on numbers of users refers only to the maximum users at any one time. This is not a limit on the total number of children who may use the program.

"This is a good program to either deliver phonics in its entirety or to complement the Letters and Sounds programme."
